  1. I’ll save some people some trouble:

    It’s not a simple Caesar cipher with a rotation of 4 (where A = E).

  2. there seems to be a “moving” solution. Ie. “Rqnpsyr Segyusu” might be Richard Feynman mentioned in the link just before it, so one can’t use direct mapping á la X -> A and so on, but the key changes. Like in first letter A -> B, next one A -> C etc. Also “Msemqwit ssgtmc” seems to refer “Fermilab letter”, since the links point there.

  3. This text also uses Q, S, V, A, P, H, L, T, and I as single letter words when in English only A and I could be used in this way. Then there’s bizarre combinations like “jj” (what word in English is a lone pair of letters?).

It’s like the cipher keeps morphing or something. Beyond me to solve it.

  4. Assuming that SSQTMC = LETTER it is probably a polyalphabetic substitution that is restarted for every word. I would suggest that the keytext is SHONAILI and that there is a caesar shift required at some point too, or a funny Vigenere grid required or something.

The dialogue is interesting because the parts that appear to correspond to plaintext I SAID regularly change, from Q KHWQ to P GNIL to A ZOVD.

I’d think about this more but I’m frantically typing this at work.

  5. Oh – and the plaintext dialogue is from the third link. I’ll have a look at this all tomorrow if I have time.

  6. Sorry, that was meant to include:

So it was all set up, and here comes the first day for censorship: Telephone! Briiing!

    Me: “What?”

    “Please come down.

    I come down.

    “What’s this?”

“It’s a letter from my father.”

    “Well, what is it?”

There’s lined paper, and there’s these lines going out with dots – four dots under, one dot above, two dots under, one dot above, dot under dot…
